Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga)
Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Boynton Beach, Florida
he looks beautiful, i love anhingas, one of my fav birds, i love it when im out kayaking on at some of my favorite wildlife refuge and i see them with just their head sticking out of the water. Great photo, its pretty hard to get close to them sometimes, you have to be real stealthy about it
This is an adult male in pretty spring plumage. During most of the year he will not have the tanish feathers around his neck/head or the turquoise coloring around the eyes.
Their body shapes are quite interesting, and a good reason why they are called the 'snake bird'

My body says I can't run; I smile...
and run free into my mind.

People are like stained glass windows: when darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light within!
Most of the year they are not colorful at all, but during breeding season they are quite beautiful, especially the males.
